Organization Name: The Women’s Center for Advancement (WCA)
Mission: Assisting victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking and their children to achieve safety and empowering them to lead self-determined lives.
Funded Program Description: The Kim Foundation’s support of the WCA helps to ensure that victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking have the necessary supports they need to stay safe and grow strong. With funding from The Kim Foundation, our Advocacy Program offers a 24-hour bilingual confidential hotline for anyone who wants to talk or needs immediate help and resources. Our Advocates are often the first responders for domestic violence and sexual assault victims at local hospitals and reach out to victims referred by local law enforcement. Advocates work to ensure victims’ immediate safety and needs are met, then assist in locating opportunities and resources to maintain long term stability. Support from The Kim Foundation helps us ensure our services are always free of charge.
Successes of Program or Inspirational Stories: With support from The Kim Foundation, in 2020, the WCA assisted 3,180 clients and provided over 25,000 services including responding to 8,338 hotline calls. These supports included responding to requests from hospitals and law enforcement as well as assisting with emergency housing, legal assistance, counseling, as well as material needs such as diapers, toiletries, and transportation. Over 90% of those responding to satisfaction surveys indicated they now have the knowledge and resources to stay safe and are aware of further resources to maintain stability. The Kim Foundation’s support ensured that victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking and their children were not alone and had the supports they needed to stay safe and grow strong.
