   A Broken System

Mental health care professionals estimate that 80-90% of those suffering from mental illness can be
helped with therapy, medication, or both.

With our current system in place, experts estimate that only 25% of severely mentally ill patients will
recover completely, 50% will recover partially, and 25% will always require long term mental health care.

Most HMO’s in the U.S. will provide only medication to treat mental illness, though mental health care
professionals usually agree that the combination of medication AND psychotherapy is vital to recovery.

Nebraska ranks 49th in the nation for tax dollars allocated to the treatment of mental illness.
