Promoting Positive Behaviors in School Age Programs

Saturday, February 4, 2012

Presented by Dr. Paul Young, President and CEO of the National AfterSchool Association (NAA), this session will help school age program leaders and their staff reflect, assess, plan, and improve adult work behaviors so that their interactions with students become more personal, proactive, and positive. The main goal of the workshop is to help teams develop a common vision about student management that results in less tension, stress and negativity by focusing on teaching and clarifying what adults must know and be able to do during every minute of programming to assure that children and youth are positively engaged, safe, and productive.

Understand the facts of how alcohol and other drugs impair your ability to make healthy choices and drive responsibly. Discover your “individual” patterns, risky behaviors, needs/wants, and lifestyle of unhealthy choices that caused stressful, emotional, legal, financial and familial issues. Change to empowerment thinking, recognize the levels of unhealthy choices of use of alcohol and other drugs and design a written action plan to prevent repeat offending. Through video, understand the judicial system and law enforcement; discover “face to face” the loss, the mental and physical impairment and the personal impact on the victim’s lives; and change your attitude toward your responsibility to the potential victims, yourself, a healthier lifestyle and “pay it forward”.
