Mental
health concerns are becoming increasingly common among pediatricians
and other child and adolescent mental health professionals practicing
in rural areas. To address this issue, the AAP Task Force on
Mental Health, Bright Futures, and the Indian Health/ Rural
Health Special Interest Group of the Council on Community Pediatrics
are pleased to announce Collaborative Models in Rural Pediatrics:
Integrating Mental Health. This teleconference will be
held October 25, 2006 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30
p.m. EDT. This teleconference will
educate rural pediatricians around how to address mental health
concerns in rural areas. Two models of collaboration and co-location
that have improved access to mental health will be described.
Resources will be provided to assist rural pediatricians in
how to better address rural mental health issues in their
practice.
Rural pediatricians Mark Harris and Jane
Oski will present on the teleconference. Dr. Harris, from
Upper Valley Pediatrics in Vermont, will present on a co-location
model utilized in his practice and will discuss pediatric
management of a mental health practice. Dr. Oski, from a Navajo
Indian Reservation in NE Arizona, will discuss telepsychiatry
applications. CME Credit will be available.
