Who
do you turn to when it seems as if no one understands? PTI
Nebraska is a statewide resource for families of children
with special health care needs. The staff of PTI Nebraska
are parent-professionals who are available to talk to parents,
caregivers, students, educators, administrators, and health
professionals about special education, disability specific
information, and other services.
PTI Nebraska has a multitude of programs
and resources designed to provide helpful information during
what can be a very difficult time.
The Supporting Parent Program of PTI Nebraska
helps connect new parents of children with a special disability
or health care need with those who have experienced similar
situations. Supporting Parents have the gift of being intimately
familiar with the emotions and problems that many new parents
are experiencing. The Supporting Parent Program further helps
communities develop parent support groups by providing training,
technical assistance and basic “getting started”
material.
PTI Nebraska’s Family Partner provides
training, information and support to families who have an
infant or toddler, a student preparing to transition from
high school or a youth in the juvenile justice system. The
Family Partner provides families and individual’s resources
and direction on ways to effectively represent the issues
and concerns of families in their communities. Family Partners
serve those across the entire state of Nebraska.
PTI Nebraska is also the organizational
host for Family Voices in Nebraska. The partnership benefits
families and professionals by fostering collaboration and
leveraging the expertise in early intervention, special education
and health services for children with special medical needs.
Family Voices works to ensure and improve family-centered
health care for children and youth with disabilities and chronic
conditions. The Family Voices Network shares information,
experiences, and expertise with other families, professional
partners, youth leaders and policymakers. Family Voices helps
to bring the family perspective to policy discussions and
decisions through our work with other organizations, health
agencies and systems and research projects across the nation.
In addition to the many support services,
PTI Nebraska is a valuable source for resource information.
PTI Nebraska conducts relevant workshops across the state
and there is no cost to attend. All parents, professionals
and others interested are encouraged to participate in workshop
presentations. PTI Nebraska workshops are focused on a variety
of topics and address issues across a wide range of ages including
early childhood, school age, and those entering a transition
period. The response of participants has been overwhelmingly
positive.
“Thank you for all the help in finding
ways to resolve issues with the school system. You are doing
a super job!” -Parent
“I am concerned about a student in
my class. This information was very helpful and will be given
to parents if a child is diagnosed with a disability.”
