FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Omaha, NE – October 10, 2003, The Omaha Federation
of Advertising (OFA) has selected The Kim Foundation as its
public service project recipient. The Kim Foundation was
established to support charitable organizations in the Omaha
area, with a special emphasis on those organizations that
assist individuals with mental health difficulties. OFA and
The Kim Foundation, in partnership with several non-profit
organizations including Lutheran Family Services, Catholic
Charities, Community Alliance, and Uta Halee – Cooper
Village, will launch a public awareness initiative to improve
public perception and foster understanding about mental illness.
" We're looking forward to working with OFA to create a public relations
campaign that will help educate the public about mental illness, demystify and
personalize the issue, and help people connect to those suffering from mental
illness on a more empathetic level,” said Diana Waggoner, executive director
of The Kim Foundation. “In addition, the goal of this campaign is to make
the public aware of the resources that are available in the community for those
suffering from mental illness, their caregivers, and their families.”
OFA will assist The Kim Foundation and partner non-profit organizations by providing
a pro-bono advertising campaign that will include television, radio, and print
messages as well as other marketing collateral materials. Thanks to the support
of area advertising vendors and media outlets, past campaigns have been valued
at an average worth of $200,000. The campaign is slated to kick off in March
of 2004 and continue through May, coinciding with National Mental Health Awareness
Month.
Past campaign recipients include The Shaken Baby Task Force, The Hope Center,
The Ollie Webb Center, Parents United, and the Aidan O'Neil Foundation for the
Prevention of Childhood Cancer.
The OFA consists of over 275 members of the local advertising community and is
affiliated with the American Advertising Federation, headquartered in Washington
D.C.
