The
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
(SAMHSA) has announced Statewide Consumer Network Grants available
to organizations that are controlled and managed by mental
health consumers. The purpose of this program is to enhance
state capacity and infrastructure to be consumer-centered
and targeted toward recovery and resiliency, and consumer-driven
by promoting the use of consumers as agents of transformation.
The
program will support consumer organizations around the country
to work with policymakers and service providers to improve
services for consumers with serious mental illnesses. The
program is designed to strengthen coalitions among consumers,
policymakers and service providers, recognizing that consumers
are the best and most effective change agents.
Nine
awards will be funded with each receiving $70,000 over a three
year period. Applications are due February 1, 2007.
