6 Behavioral Healthcare announces a conference focused on children
in poverty. The event will be held June 28, 2007
at the DC Centre in Omaha, Nebraska.
Many children who live in poverty are at risk
simply by being in their environment. These risks are dramatically
evident in their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
Learn what is happening in Nebraska and what professionals can do
using family centered practices.
Course Objectives:
- Learn about the myths and realities
of poverty in Nebraska.
- Understand how those living in poverty are
at risk for other social ills.
- Understand how poverty challenges affect children,
their families, and their development.
- Understand how class affects the way people
think and function in society.
- Recognize your own attitudes regarding poverty
and how that impacts your effectiveness in working with clients
experiencing poverty.
- Understand how all parts of the community
must work together to respond to the challenges of poverty.
This conference meets the requirements for six
continuing education units for Nebraska Social Workers, Professional
Counselors, Licensed Mental Health Practitioners, and Marriage &
