Great Plains Chapter |
The Alzheimer’s Association - Great Plains Chapter serves 80 counties of
Nebraska and all of Wyoming. Since 1983 what is now the Alzheimer's
Association of the Great Plains has provided information and referral
services, education and training, and care consultation. The Alzheimer’s
Association of the Great Plains advocates for the estimated 33,000 Great
Plains residents struggling with Alzheimer's disease or a related
dementia by advising our state legislators and agencies about the
disease and its ramifications on society. The Great Plains Chapter
offers financial respite assistance for the caregivers of those
afflicted with dementia and supports research on a national level. |

Douglas County |
Behavioral Health Jail Diversion Programs are available in Douglas and
Lancaster counties. The goal of the program is to divert individuals
with a serious mental illness or co-occurring substance abuse disorder
who are in jail for nonviolent, misdemeanor crimes or who have had
multiple law enforcement contacts in the community to the local
behavioral health system. |

Catholic Charities, Inc. |
Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Omaha began as a formal social
service agency in 1926 to offer relief and rehabilitation to Catholic
families. Since that time, the agency has seen tremendous growth and
today provides its services to individuals and families in need of
assistance regardless of race, creed, or socioeconomic status. Over
70,000 individuals were reached in 2007 through the programs of Catholic
Charities.

Heartland Crisis Intervention Team Council |
A variety of programs have been established throughout Nebraska with the
goal of enhancing law enforcement’s response toward individuals with
mental illness. In Omaha, a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) model was
developed and adopted as a cooperative community partnership involving
law enforcement agencies, mental health service providers, mental health
consumers, family members, and community funders. |

Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, Inc. |
Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska (LFS) is a faith-based,
not-for-profit, multi-service human care agency with more than 30
locations across Nebraska and locations in Council Bluffs, Iowa and
Wichita, Kansas. |

Mental Health Association of Nebraska |
The Mental Health Association of Nebraska (MHA-NE) is a consumer-run,
voluntary, not-for-profit, statewide association with Chapters located
in communities throughout Nebraska. MHA-NE brings together service
recipients, families, professionals, advocates, and concerned citizens
to address all aspects of mental health and mental illness. |

NAMI-Nebraska |
NAMI Nebraska is a nonprofit, grassroots organization dedicated to
education, support and advocacy for anyone whose life has been touched
by mental illness. NAMI believes in recovery and the hope for a better
future. |

Nebraska Advocacy Services |
Nebraska Advocacy Services, Inc. (NAS), The Center for Disability
Rights, Law and Advocacy, is a private, non-profit organization
designated by the Governor to protect and advocate for the rights of
Nebraskans with significant physical or mental disabilities. From its
beginning, NAS has promoted the principles of equality,
self-determination, and dignity of persons with disabilities. |

Targeted Adult Service Coordination (TASC) |
The Targeted Adult Service Coordination (TASC) Program was started in
October of 2005 and serves Butler, Fillmore, Gage, Jefferson, Johnson,
Lancaster, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee, Polk, Richardson, Saline, Saunders,
Seward, Thayer, and York counties. Through TASC mental health
professionals are available at the request of law enforcement 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week, to provide consultation and assist in identifying
needs and resources to meet those in need. |

University of Nebraska – Omaha |
The Department of Gerontology is currently working on several projects
focused on caring for caregivers of families and mental illness in the
elderly. |
