The Partnering for the Education of Students in Out-of-Home Placements workshop focuses on the importance of developing and strengthening partnerships between the primary systems involved in the education of students in out-of-home placements in order to improve their academic outcomes. The purpose of this annual event is to promote communication, coordination and collaboration between public schools, Interim-Program Schools, Special Purpose Schools, child welfare and juvenile justice agencies, child advocates, treatment providers, parents and family organizations.
This years event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The workshop will provide participants with the following:
- Information on the national initiative, Blueprint for the Education Success for Children in Foster Care, presented by Kathleen McNaught of the American Bar Association Center for Children and the Law and Susan Weiss of the Casey Foundation
- Information, updates and resource materials related to the education of students in out-of-home placements from the Nebraska Department of Education, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Nebraska State Probation Administration and Nebraska Foster Care Review Board
- Opportunities to share information and experiences related to the education of students in out-of-home placements
- Opportunities to generate ideas and share strategies for improving academic outcomes of students in out-of-home placements.
There is no charge for attending the 2008 Partnering Workshop, continental breakfast and luncheon. Travel, lodging and other meals are at the participant’s expense.
